Start here before your first `salla theme create`.

## What you need [#what-you-need]

| Tool      | Version        | Why                                                                                                                           |
| --------- | -------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Node.js   | 20.19 or newer | Runs the dev server.                                                                                                          |
| pnpm      | 10 or newer    | Themes are pnpm-only. Other package managers install duplicate copies of shared libraries and the theme fails at render time. |
| git       | any            | The CLI starts a git history for the new theme.                                                                               |
| Salla CLI | 3.x            | Creates and runs the theme.                                                                                                   |

No Salla account, partner account or GitHub account is needed to create and run a theme.

## Install the CLI [#install-the-cli]

```bash
npm install -g @salla.sa/cli
salla --version
```

## Check your machine [#check-your-machine]

```bash
salla theme doctor
```

It checks Node, pnpm and git. When all is well it prints:

```text
Toolchain: node 22.4.0 · pnpm 10.4.1 · git
Everything a Salla React theme needs is installed.
```

Otherwise it stops with the fix:

| Problem      | What the CLI tells you                                           |
| ------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Node too old | Install a newer one, for example `nvm install 20 && nvm use 20`. |
| pnpm missing | It offers to run `corepack enable pnpm`. Say yes.                |
| pnpm too old | `corepack prepare pnpm@latest --activate`                        |
| git missing  | Install it from git-scm.com.                                     |

`create`, `dev` and `preview` run the same check first, so you only need `doctor` to check without starting anything.
